Soul Cycle Life Your life Like You Ride Your Bike
I walked out of my Saturday morning Soul Cycle class with Olivia feeling like I went to church. Soul Cycle is quite spiritual. I leave floating on clouds and feeling like I can take on the world. Often times workouts are more about overcoming mental obstacles rather than the physical. Our bodies can handle more than our minds tell us we can.

On Saturday morning I was panting, sweating, and regretting the night of gluttony at L’Artusi. Clearly I had forgotten that food is fuel. Short ribs and two glasses of red wine are not the premium fuel that my body needed (but they sure were delicious!). I was convinced I was going to pass out and I was ready to walk out of class. It was during one of the many sprints up imaginary hills when Olivia yelled “just roll one foot in front of the other.”

Right. Left. Right. Left. Right. Left. Right. Left.

So often in the gym, and in life, we focus on the pain in our current circumstances. We focus on how we feel. We focus on the burn. We allow that pain to paralyze us and keep us from achieving our goals. Instead, we should be focusing on what’s ahead and just rolling one foot in front of the other.

Right. Left. Right. Left. Right. Left.

When we divert our attention on what’s ahead, we hardly notice the pain.

Right. Left. Right. Left. Right. Left.

Because the burn eventually wears off and then high kicks in.

  • Love this Grace! So true..I often feel mentally stronger after a workout, and that’s what I really keep going back for, even though getting physically stronger is great, too, it’s that “high” and I can do anything feeling that I really love!

    • If only I could bottle the high and keep it with me!
