Day 2 of Favorite Things. Leading up to the NYC marathon (and after the race) I was experiencing extreme tightness in my right hip flexor. I went into to Pilates On Fifth to try their CoreAlign® class, which stimulates the core stability muscles through a series of deep stretches and core controlled aerobic training. Code for lots of stretching, holding, and burning. The identifying element of CoreAlign® is the reformer-like machine that has a “ladder” to stabilize your body and two sliders, not one, mimicking your natural gait. After one session, I felt my posture, balance, and flexibility improve.

What I loved most about CoreAlign is that it was a core burning workout while stretching my body. Stretching, you know, the thing we all know we should do but never do. CoreAlign is one of the many classes available at Pilates on Fifth. It isn’t your pretentious boutique fitness studio with a fancy locker room. It’s a family business (twin sisters actually!) that focuses on helping you live life better. Owners and sisters Katherine and Kimberly “wanted to create an oasis” as evidenced by the blue walls and natural lighting from the ceiling windows. The space is a haven from the city streets, 22 floors up to be exact. While there is a physical therapist on site, CoreAlign provided all the therapy I needed for my hip and my mind. Exercise isn’t just about burning calories and fat, it’s also for rehabilitating your body and mind to perform better.

    Definitely need to work on my posture! As a lovely lady who stands at 5’10, nothing is attractive about a hunch, and my bad posture has been causing major back and shoulder pains 🙁

    • @fat_nat:disqus – I’m 5’7″ and bordering 5’8″…if only I would stand up straight! And i’m with you…it causes me unnecessary back and shoulder pain. Oof.
