Pitaya Smoothie Bowl

March 30, 2015

As the weather gets warmer, I love the variety of fruits that are delivered to my local organic store. One fruit that I always look forward to seeing is dragon fruit, also known as pitaya, because it’s so peculiar looking. I’ve always wanted to know what pitaya tastes like but have always been intimidated by its looks. So today I’ve partnered with FreshDirect to bring you Pitaya Smoothie Bowls. Fresh Direct has taken the guess work out of pitaya and made it easy to enjoy by providing these Pitaya Plus Smoothie Packs – individual servings of frozen pitaya. Each order comes with four packets and are packed with fiber, anti-oxidants, and Vitamin C. These smoothie bowls were super easy to make. I blended two pitaya plus smoothie packs with 1/2 cup of mango and 1/2 cup of pineapple to make two bowls. If you like your smoothies a bit sweeter,…

Matcha Lattes at Chalait

March 10, 2015

I love a good coffee date, but when my friend Lourdes at Please, Do Tell invited me out for matcha lattes at Chalait, I was quite intrigued. Matcha is the concentrated, finely ground powder of green tea. Coffee lattes are already divine, so why ruin a good thing? Matcha has a plethora of health benefits: it’s high in antioxidants, boosts the metabolism and burns calories, enhances mood, aids in digestion, lowers cholesterol and blood sugar levels, is rich in fiber, and has the nutrients equivalent to ten cups of green tea. So on the coldest morning this winter, I met Lourdes at Chalait. Chalait is a small, neighborhood cafe in the West Village that serves matcha drinks, specialty coffee, and small bites. I walked in and immediately fell in love with the space. It’s clean, minimalist in design, and pouring with natural sunlight. As I mentioned, it’s small. There’s only…

Green Blender Smoothies

February 20, 2015

Green Blender is a smoothie subscription service that delivers five unique smoothie recipes and pre-portioned ingredients to your door weekly. It’s like Blue Apron for smoothie lovers. Designed by nutritionists, the smoothies are fresh, nutritious, and packed with super-foods. I first learned about Green Blender on Instagram while undergoing my 30 days of #AdventuresInJuice series, and have also met Jenna (the founder) at several health and wellness events. So when I had the opportunity to actually try it, I jumped at the opportunity. I wanted to eat clean for a week after the traveling I’ve been doing, so I thought it would be a great way to recharge my system. THE SERVICE My first Green Blender box was neatly packaged and delivered to me via messenger around 6 pm Wednesday. However, my first box was supposed to be delivered the week prior. Both the messenger service and Jenna from Green…

Cold Pressed Juice 101 With Montauk Juice Factory

February 9, 2015

This past weekend I went on my first wellness retreat (which I’ll share more about later). In addition to the many yoga, barre, and bootcamp classes, I had the opportunity to attend a juicing 101 workshop with Montauk Juice Factory, a cold pressed juice company and delivery service. I thought we were attending a juice making workshop, but this was so much more informative. Madi, one of the co-founders of Montauk Juice Factory, walked us through the benefits of juicing, some do’s and don’ts, and many more surprises. Why juice? Juicing and drinking juice makes it easier for the body to absorb vital nutrients. With the right combination of fruits, vegetables, and spices, your body will be recharged, refueled, and even heal you. Many of today’s diseases are caused by inflammation, acidity, and oxidation. Juices help alleviate those symptoms. What is cold pressed juice? Cold press is the process by…
