Yo Yoga

January 30, 2017

This year I made a commitment to stepping up my yoga practice. The purpose is not only to balance my running and strengthen my muscles, but to help bring balance and peace into my life. I broke my routine of hot yoga at Y7 and accepted an invite to check out Yo Yoga. The studio is located on the upper east side of Manhattan and is the complete opposite of your trendy boutique fitness studio. Upon first glance, I did not know what to think. There are no bright lights, no large signage, no balloons, no citrus scents, and no branded clothing line for sale. That’s intentional. Founder Rebecca Weible “wanted no decor in the studio so students can turn their practice into whatever they wanted without distraction.” Rebecca and her brother renovated the second floor studio with their own two hands even laying the wooden floor panels themselves. How To Fall In Love With Winter Running

January 17, 2017

Hey readers, thanks for having me over here at Lean Girls Club! My name is Megan–I run a blog called Run Like a Grl and also blog over at Cal-EZ. And I’m here to talk a little bit about winter running. For some, just seeing those two words next to each other in a sentence sends a chill down their spine. Yet, others love the quiet and the coolness of hitting the pavement outside during the winter…but how do these people do it?! Winter can be cold, windy, and dark, but that doesn’t mean you have to hide out indoors on the treadmill. You Can Be Queen of the Pavement It’s quiet in the…

So You’re The Slowest Runner In The Group…

January 10, 2017

This morning was the first time that my NYRR training group met. I decided back in November that I wanted to be a faster runner and purchased a set of eight classes on Cyber Monday. You know you’re a runner if the only thing you purchased between Black Friday and Giving Tuesday is a set of running classes for yourself. I got my butt up at 5 am, put on four layers, and took an Uber to Prospect Park for my class. It was 20 degrees this morning with the city still covered in snow so I questioned how many people would actually show up, and was surprised to learn that approximately 25 people gathered before I got there. Dedication. I checked in with the guy with the clipboard that had a mini flashlight clamped to it (yup, it was still dark) and learned that I was in Group 3….

Y7: Yoga For The Hip Hop Lover

December 12, 2016

Y7 is one of those yoga studios that makes me wish I had come up with the idea. It combines my two passions, music and fitness. So duh, why didn’t I think of that? For those who don’t know, my grown-up job is working in the music business. Y7 is candle-lit, hot vinyasa yoga choreographed to hip hop. The studio was first established in 2013 and since then has expanded to six locations primarily in NYC and one in West Hollywood. Although not scientifically proven, I believe that word about the studio is spreading thanks to Instagram. I learned about Y7 on Instagram. I saw some chick doing forearm stands in front of a mural inked with JAY Z lyrics and I just felt that… This. Place. Gets. Me. Hip hop lyrics with a yogi twist don the walls, and each studio features a different lyric. If you’re an Instagram…
